The "flying" Sunkid Wonder Carpet

Star Lifts USA constructs the first Wonder Carpet with hydraulic hoist for the entire length of the system

On Mt. Hood (Oregon), Sunkid faced an extraordinary challenge along with sister company Star Lifts USA. In the beginners' area of Oregon's largest ski resort, an existing rope lift with adjustable height was replaced by a 276-foot (84m) ski conveyor belt. Owing to the tremendous volume of fresh snow – up to 50 feet (15 meters) over the whole winter – Star Lifts USA developed a hydraulic hoisting system for the Sunkid Wonder Carpet in cooperation with Gmuender Engineering LLC. The entire length of the 84-meter system can be hydraulically hoisted and easily adjusted to the height of the snow.

Year after year, Sunkid (Star Lifts) is presented with new challenges that require innovative solutions. For instance, last year the first conveyor belt on supports up to 12 meters high was constructed in Keystone (CO). This winter, Sunkid (Star Lifts) constructed the first Wonder Carpet with a hydraulic hoist system for the entire length of the 84-meter system (276 feet)!
