Two ski areas in the USA are already lifting the Sunkid Wonder Carpet conveyor on support beams!
Up in the Air: the “Flying“ Wonder Carpet Conveyor
Following the first Sunkid conveyor on support beams in 2008 in Keystone (Colorado, USA), the Austrian company along with its affiliate enterprise Start Lifts USA Inc. went a step further last winter. At Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort in Nevada (USA), the conveyor on support beams was once again applied. The breathtaking solution with a length of 138m protrudes up to 10m above the ground! The concept, planning and successful implementation lets those who were responsible look upon this project with great pleasure.
In American Nevada, visitors of the Heavenly Valley Ski Resort can enjoy pure winter fun. In the middle of the ski area, there is a challenging slope used for various fun sport activities. Up until recently, it was very difficult to use the existing ski tow systems with the various fun sport equipment.
Furthermore, sufficient capacity could not be reached, which finally lead to the implementation of a new solution. To additionally increase user comfort, the operator decided to put up a Sunkid Wonder Carpet Conveyor for the climb. The big challenge was to work around the up to 35% incline of the terrain without modifying it.
The solution to this challenge involved installing the Sunkid Wonder Carpet conveyor on a special metal construction. Set on beams at a height of up to ten meters, passengers can then be transported at an incline of 22%.
For the safety of the users and to minimize maintenance needs, the Sunkid Gallery was fitted with evacuation stairs and fall-prevention devices on both sides. During the ascent, guests can enjoy the exceptional situation of being able to observe the hustle and bustle in the Fun Sport area “from high up“. With up to 2000 people per hour, the required capacity can furthermore be considerably increased.
Those of us responsible at Sunkid are very happy with the successful implementation of this innovative challenge. We congratulate the customers at Heavenly Valley, as well as Peter Kavanagh, Marc Wood und Joe Gmünder from the Sunkid affiliate Start Lifts Inc. for the fully smooth handling of this extraordinary project.
