The Comfort Star in dual duty
Willingen/Sauerland (Germany): A Sunkid Comfort Star extending 656 ft (220m) fills the gap between two ski mountains in the area
Willingen is not only known to winter sports fans as a stopover point for world cup ski jumpers, but is also the most northernmost winter sports location in Germany. Thanks to its proximity to Holland and the Ruhr Valley, it attracts many day-trippers and vacation guests. The local infrastructure is perfectly developed to conveniently transport visitors within the ski resort. Since the beginning of this year’s winter season, a Sunkid Comfort Star Lift supports the effort by helping winter sports fans switch from one ski mountain to another. Using the 656 foot (220m) long small ski lift, skiers coming from Ettelsberg can now reach the slopes of the Sonnenlift problem-free.
In addition, the lift is also used as a practice area by ski schools. Therefore, the Sunkid Comfort Star functions not only as a transfer lift, but also as a practice lift. Since the ski resort is located at an altitude well below 3,280 ft (1,000m), the lift trail was fitted with NP70 synthetic tracks, so it can be used even in poor snow conditions. Yet considering this year’s magnificent winter, they have luckily remained buried under several centimeters of snow.
