Schmittenhöhebahn improves beginners' area

New possibilities with the “Schmidolins Moving Carpet”

Place: Zell am See /Year: 2025 / Product: Moving Carpet

The Schmittenhöhebahn in Zell am See is delighted to have an optimized beginners' area at the areitXpress valley station. The relocation of the route of the “Schmidolins Moving Carpet” has created a completely new opportunity to use the existing area as a piste area and now offers ideal conditions for all those who want to take their first turns in the snow.

“We are delighted to be able to offer our guests an ideal beginners' area thanks to the redesign of the area. The new alignment of the conveyor belt means that the 10,000 m² slope area can be better utilized. Thanks to the optimal weather conditions at the start of the winter season and the persistently cold temperatures in the valley, our grooming team has created perfect slopes for beginners and especially children that are second to none,” says Ingo Dürlinger, Head of the Lifts and Slopes Group. “The centerpiece is the 120-meter-long covered Moving Carpet and a modern infrastructure with a new lift building including children's toilets and a children's wash basin directly at the valley station. The two parallel slopes to the left and right of the conveyor belt offer plenty of space for first attempts in the snow.” With up to 4,000 transports per day, the Schmittenhöhebahn feels vindicated - the beginners' area has been very well received by guests.

“The newly created beginners' area is perfect for the first attempts on skis and offers optimal terrain to prepare students for the next step, the trip up the mountain and the Glocknerwiese. In the main season, the five local ski schools look after up to 250 beginners on the Schüttwiese,” reports Franz Oberlader from the Zell am See ski school. A modern infrastructure and an ideal beginners' slope are crucial for the ski schools to be able to work efficiently and teach beginners the basics of technique and the joy of skiing.

“With the improved beginners' area, we want to get even more people excited about winter sports,” says Dr. Erich Egger (CEO of Schmittenhöhebahn AG).
