The fallow square in front of the school was transformed into a themed play and teaching area
Sunkid implemented this project together with architect DI Bettina Platter and its co-partners Almholz.
After an intensive period of preparation, the community of Kaunertal set itself new goals as part of an innovation process for village renewal. During this phase, a desire arose among the population for a meeting place for young and old, which was to become reality in a livable design of the village square. The village square is located directly next to the school and is divided into three parts: the school garden, the children's playground and the forecourt.
The school garden, which had previously served as an orchard, was adapted so that in the future it could be used by the students as a recreational space and meeting place. The outdated playground was adapted to modern requirements and themed to follow the "flying classroom" theme. This now includes a series of free-swinging swings to slides and a small bouldering wall, a climbing tower and even a herb garden. To allow lessons to be moved outdoors from time to time, a pergola was also installed along with plenty of seating.
